I am Professor of Education and Associate Dean for Research in theSchool of Education, Social Work and Community Education at theUniversityof Dundee. Initially I worked as a secondary school teacher of mathematics for fifteen years until moving into teacher education. In 2004 I was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Funding Council of England. Prior to joining the Universityof Dundee I worked at Umeå University in Sweden as Professor in Educational Work for ICT and Learning, where I continue to work as a visiting professor. Currently I am Chair of the Teacher Education Policy in Europe (TEPE) Network; Link Convenor for Network 27 on Didactics, Learning and Teaching of the European Educational Research Association (EERA); a member of the Executive Committee of the Scottish Educational Research Association and Associate Editor of the Journal of Curriculum Studies. At this time I am Project Director for the Scottish Government funded project “Developing Mathematical Thinking in the Primary Classroom” (2009-11). Also I currently represent the Scottish Teacher Education Committee (STEC) on the Technologies for Learning Strategy Steering Group of the Scottish Government.
